70 years old without feeling it, he still drives to Paris to present his latest collections. He loves braces, wears only jackets without collar and communicates by fax, adding the weather forecasts from Milan and a sad smiley if sunny. He’s a person you would like to invite to Christmas dinner and you would like to listen to his stories, to laugh, learn, get his attitude and advice.
70 anni e non sentirli, guida tutt’oggi fino a Parigi per presentare le sue ultime collezioni. Amante delle bretelle, indossa solo giacche senza bavero e comunica con i suoi clienti via fax, con annessa indicazione delle condizioni meteo a Milano ed emoticon triste in caso di sole. Una persona che vorresti invitare alla cena di Natale e star lí ad ascoltare i suoi aneddoti, per ridere, imparare, assorbire atteggiamenti e consigli.
Francesco Maglia company has been creating umbrellas since 1854 for the best luxury clothing brands and the stylish boutiques all over the world. Every part is hand-made, from the fabric cut (polyester or cotton) to the stitching on the sticks, to the buttons, in a process which requires not less than seventy steps. These hand-made amazing products, which survive the time and the generations, can be personalized with a fabric chosen by the client, on which it’s possible to reproduce the logo or the requested pattern.
Dal 1854 la Francesco Maglia realizza ombrelli per i migliori marchi di abbigliamento del settore lusso e le boutique eleganti di mezzo mondo. Tutto è realizzato a mano, dal taglio del tessuto (poliestere o cotone) alla cucitura dello stesso sulle “balene” (le bacchette), passando per i bottoni, in un processo che prevede non meno di settanta passaggi. Queste meraviglie artigianali, che sopravvivono al tempo e alle generazioni, sono anche personalizzabili con tessuto scelto dal cliente, sul quale è possibile far stampare il logo o il disegno desiderato.
The range of materials used for the stick is very wide. You can choose among chestnut, broom, ash, hazelnut, malacca, bamboo, maple (shiny or opaque), elm and hickory. Each Maglia umbrella has from eight to ten sticks, with three different sizes for women – 50, 58 and 61 cm, and three for men – 63, 67, 75 cm-. The handle can be of wood or of calf leather; in this case the colours of the fine stitching recall the fabric pattern. The tips can be in plastic, brass or horn.
Amplissima la gamma di materiali utilizzati per il fusto. Si può scegliere tra castano, ginestra, frassino, nocciolo, malacca, bamboo, acero (lucido e opaco), olmo ed hickory. Ogni ombrello Maglia presenta dalle otto alle dieci balene, con tre varianti di misure per la donna - 50, 58 e 61 cm e tre per l’uomo - 63, 67, 75 cm -. Il manico può essere in legno o in pelle di vitello; in quest’ultimo caso eleganti cuciture richiamano nei colori la fantasia del tessuto. I puntali, infine, possono essere in plastica, ottone o corno.
