Come descriveresti il tuo stile? Il mio stile non è altro che la manifestazione di me stesso; uno spartito che parla di me. Armonia tra quello che vorrei mostrare e quello che vorrei nascondere. Un missaggio di suoni, note, colori di sinfonica e bebop. Le definizioni precise e le etichette le lascio pronunciare agli altri…
What’s your first memory related to menswear? As a teenager, with my brother Valentino, some years elder than me, sitting on our home sofa, commenting and flicking through the pages of the last issue of a recently bought fashion magazine. Afterwards, an exciting memory is the arrival of the dear Filippo, our tailor, at our tailor’s shop; the selection of the fabric and of the model of my first bespoke suit. Unforgettable!
Qual è il tuo primo ricordo legato all'abbigliamento da uomo? Da adolescente, assieme a mio fratello Valentino, più grande di me di qualche anno, seduti al divano di casa a sfogliare e commentare l’ultimo numero di questa o quella rivista di moda appena acquistata. E poi un emozionante ricordo, a seguire, l’arrivo presso la sartoria del caro Filippo, il nostro sarto; la scelta del tessuto e del modello con cui realizzare il mio primo abito su misura. Indimenticabile!
How do you get inspiration? Nature, in its continuous flux, is a never-ending source of inputs and new ideas. Moreover I draw inspiration from books, their imagined lives and, often from the gazes of men and women living with passion…
Come trovi ispirazione? La natura, nel suo contino divenire, è fonte ripetuta di impulsi e di idee nuove. Ed ancora trovo ispirazione dai libri, dalla vita immaginata dei libri e, non di rado, anche dagli sguardi degli uomini, delle donne, che vivono con e di passione…
Any person who has influenced your style? I look up to legendary people like the Duke of Windsor or “our” Avvocato – Gianni Agnelli. Whoever has a little sensitivity can’t be indifferent to their genius, because through them there is always something to learn. However I believe that being influenced by the masters is useless. Would their style be the same nowadays? It would most likely be way different and so did our style, inspired to them. Why getting inspiration from just one person, although great? His life experiences will never be ours, his life will never be neither a recap of our life…in other words, nobody has strongly influenced my style so far.
Una persona che ha influenzato il tuo stile ? Guardo con ammirazione uomini divenuti ormai leggenda come il Duca di Windsor o il "nostro" Avvocato – Gianni Agnelli -. Chi ha un minimo di sensibilità non può essere rimasto indifferente di fronte a cotanto genio e attraverso loro c’è sempre qualcosa da imparare. Tuttavia non penso sia utile subire le influenze dei maestri. Il loro stile se vivessero oggi sarebbe lo stesso?! Verosimilmente sarebbe diverso, molto diverso, ed allora anche il nostro stile ispirato al loro, sarebbe nuovo… che senso ha farsi influenzare da un solo individuo, benchè grandissimo. Le esperienze raccolte non saranno mai nostre, la sua esperienza, la vita vissuta, non sarà mai neppure la sintesi della nostra vita… In sostanza, ti posso dire, non c’è nessuno che sino ad oggi ha influenzato in modo secco e predominante il mio stile.
A style tip for men who want to dress well? This can be a simple question, but to me it is not that easy to give an answer…I don’t consider myself wise enough to give advice. Only suggestions: study the rules, educate the senses and never gloss over who you are.
Un consiglio di stile per un uomo che vuole vestire bene ? Questa può essere una domanda semplice ma per me non lo è del tutto… non mi ritengo abbastanza saggio, infatti, per dare consigli. Solo dei suggerimenti: studiare le regole, educare i sensi e non dissimulare (mai) quello che si è.
