Giorgio Ricciardi buys fabrics in Como and London, is a menswear lover, who followed his father’s footsteps, and reinvented himself is a succesful way. In the early 30’s of the past century, his father had opened a high quality fabric shop in the heart of a rich neapolitan neighbourhood. In the 80’s he had boutiques in Via Calabritto (Napoli) and in the evocative Via Camerelle in Capri, the last one even mentioned in an enthusiastic article on Vogue.
Today he defines himself “a teenager in the body of a sixty-year-old man” and I believe him, given the passion he delivers for his job. “A passione e nu guajo”, he reminds me, in Neapolitan dialect, while I touch the pure silks in the showroom and suddenly comes to my mind a line from the Argentinian movie “The secret in their eyes”, in which Morales (Pablo Rago), tallking with Benjamín (Ricardo Darín), says: “You can change everything, the face, the house, the family, the lover, the religion, even God…but there’s one thing you can never change Benjamín…you can never change the passion”. And the passion of this neapolitan gentleman reflects in every corner of this caprese style shop, in the furniture, in the words he uses and the pictures he shows me while recalling his trips to Milan and Rome to show his collections.
Giorgio provides customers with a bespoke ties service, hand-sewn, three or seven folds, with fabrics, length and pattern specific to one’s preferences, costomized logo on the front, monograms on the back, home delivery and even a cotton thread at the end of the seam (the clutch) to adjust a crumpled tie after having knotted it (!). Everything at a more than reasonable price. I wave goodbye to him, happy to have discovered this unexpected “bespoke corner” in Naples and I only regret not having spotted it before.
“Nulla è più affascinante del superfluo”, ecco cosa ho pensato quando mi sono imbattuto per caso in questo negozio di cravatte su misura, durante un weekend nella mia Napoli. No, non è un errore di battitura: Ties & Dreams è proprio il luogo adatto per gli amanti del genere, per chi ama il “bespoke”, perfino quando si tratta di cravatte.
Giorgio Ricciardi compra tessuti a Como e a Londra, ha la passione per l’abbigliamento, è un figlio d’arte che ha voluto reinventarsi e ci è riuscito benissimo. Già negli anni ’30 suo padre aveva aperto nel cuore della Napoli “bene” un negozio di tessuti di alta qualità. Negli anni 80 ha avuto boutique in Via Calabritto a Napoli e nella suggestiva via Camerelle a Capri, quest’ultima anche oggetto di un entusiasta articolo sulla rivista Vogue.
Oggi si definisce “un diciannovenne nel corpo di un sessantenne” e non è difficile credergli, data la passione che trasmette per il suo lavoro. “A passione è nu guajo” - mi ricorda mentre passo le dita sulle sete purissime in esposizione - e mi viene in mente una frase del film argentino “Il segreto dei suoi occhi”, in cui Morales (Pablo Rago) dice a Benjamín (Ricardo Darin): "Si può cambiare tutto, la faccia, la casa, la famiglia, la ragazza, la religione, anche Dio...però c'e una cosa che non si può cambiare Benjamin... non si può cambiare la passione". E la passione di questo signore si riflette in ogni angolo del suo salottino stile caprese, nell’arredo, nelle parole che usa e nelle foto che mi mostra mentre rievoca i suoi viaggi da giovane a Milano e Roma per presentare le sue collezioni.
Giorgio fornisce un servizio di cravatte interamente cucite a mano, tre o sette pieghe, sfoderate su richiesta, con tessuti, lunghezza e fantasie scelti dal cliente, eventuali loghi personalizzati, iniziali cucite sul retro, consegna a domicilio in tutt’Italia e addirittura un filo di cotone ("la frizione”) per stendere una cravatta sgualcita dopo averla annodata (!). Il tutto a prezzi più che ragionevoli. Esco contento di aver conosciuto quest’angolo inaspettato del “su misura” a Napoli e mi rammarico solo di non averlo scoperto prima.
