Perhaps unexpected for an area that has gained such a noted reputation for exclusive Neapolitan menswear, the origin’s of Via Filangieri’s tradition lay in high-end women’s textiles. For nearly forty years, Magnifique also specialized in this industry, until the end of the 90’s when the store shifted its focus to men’s tailoring and retail.
In linea con le altre attività della Via Filangieri dell’epoca, questo salotto ha offerto per circa quarant’anni solo tessuti di alta moda donna. Dalla fine degli anni ’90, poi, il cambiamento; e Magnifique diventa una sartoria da uomo con annessa vendita al dettaglio.
Magnifique is now in its second generation of Esposito ownership and is currently run by Mario’s son, Dario. Despite a 32-year career in the family business, Dario has yet to lose his passion for excellence and aesthetic. The shelves of this welcoming store lack neither style nor refinement and are filled with one very simple, but much coveted thing: the best in menswear. Holland&Sherry, Dormeuil, Vitale Barberis Canonico, Zegna, Colombo and Cerruti are just a few examples.
Dario, l’attuale titolare nonché figlio del fondatore, svolge questo lavoro da ben 32 anni, ma non perde la passione per il gusto e per l’eccellenza. Da lui si possono acquistare i migliori tessuti sul mercato, del calibro di Holland&Sherry, Dormeuil, Vitale Barberis Canonico, Zegna, Colombo e Cerruti per citare il gotha.
Beyond fabrics, Magnifique also sells an exclusive selection of made-to-measure and hand-made Goodyear welted shoes that are built from grade A skins such as French calf, Shell Cordovan, Crocodile and British suede.
Magnifique also offers a vast selection of the best in menswear brands. Any Magnifique customer can choose from a broad range of products: from seven-fold, unlined and hand-stitched ties to traditional Scottish cashmere knitwear (the cashmere selection itself covers a range from 2 to 12 ply; Todd or Duncan yarns); from Bresciani socks to Albert Thruston braces.
Magnifique offre anche un servizio di scarpe su misura fatte a mano con lavorazione Goodyear e con pellami di alta qualità, che vanno dal vitello francese allo shell cordovan, dal coccodrillo al camoscio inglese. In questa accogliente realtà fatta di gusto e raffinatezza, sono concentrati i migliori brand per ogni capo d’abbigliamento e accessorio maschile. Il cliente può spaziare dalle cravatte 7 pieghe sfoderate orlate a mano, alla maglieria esclusivamente scozzese con cachemire da 2 a 12 fili e filati Todd e Duncan, dalle calze di Bresciani alle bretelle di Albert Thurston.
Even the endless collection of cufflinks represents, well…the best: Dunhill, KJD, Murray World, Mag Mouch and “a’ tumbulell e Magnifique,” Neapolitan for “Magnifique’s tombola” – wrist jewels in the shape of the numbers of the Neapolitan tombola, hand-made by master craftsman, Enzo Ardone.
Of course, the store’s inventory does not end with cufflinks... Magnifique is the only store in Naples that sells Francesco Maglia umbrellas. Selected by Dario himself, these umbrellas are known for their silk embellishments, Made in Como. Thanks to partnerships with Panama, Boellis’ luxury perfume collection in Daytona, and Millesimè, men’s fragrances are also available at Magnifique.
Inifinita, poi, la selezione di gemelli delle migliori marche: Dunhill, KJD, Murray Word, Mag Mouch, nonché “a’ tumbulell’ e’ Magnifique”, simpatici gioielli da polso con i numeri della smorfia napoletana, realizzati a mano dall’artigiano Enzo Ardone. Non mancano all’appello gli eleganti ombrelli di Francesco Maglia (a Napoli in esclusiva da Magnifique), impreziositi da sete comasche selezionate dal titolare medesimo. Infine, grazie ad una partnership con Panama 1924, la linea di profumi di lusso dei Boellis, nei modelli Millesimè e Daytona, il negozio offre anche delicate fragranze da uomo.
As if the retail selection wasn’t enough, a tailor shop and MtM shirt shop is also available. Both services provide the option for home delivery – locally, and abroad. Paying tribute to the slogan “the suit ought to be a second skin”, three skilled in-house tailors cut suits and shirts for Magnifique’s customers. Some of the signature features of their suits are: soft, unstructured jacket with minimal canvas lining, mappina sleeves, patch and a pignata pockets, peak lapels, either bemberg or silk lining on the inside and mother-of-pearl buttons. Their shirts feature many hand-made parts: the collar; the mouche; the buttonholes and buttons; armhole; cuffs, etc. Even the monogram is hand-sewn by Madame Anna, one of the oldest and most skilled Neapolitan seamstresses.
Di fianco alla vendita al dettaglio, poi, la sartoria e la camiceria su misura, anche a domicilio e all’estero. In onore allo slogan “l’abito deve essere come una seconda pelle”, ben tre sarti tagliano abiti e camicie su misura per i clienti di Magnifique. Nel pieno rispetto dei canoni della sartoria napoletana, ecco alcune caratteristiche di un loro abito: giacca morbida, poco intelata, destrutturata, manica a mappina, tasca applicata e “a pignata“, bavero con “punta smoking”, fodera in bemberg o seta, bottoni in corozzo o madreperla. La camicia presenta almeno 8 passaggi a mano: collo, mouche, cannoletto, asola, bottone a giglio, giromanica, polsini e cifre, queste ultime ricamate a mano dalla Sig.ra Anna, tra le più esperte e anziane ricamatrici napoletane.
It is well known that while fashion fades, Style remains constant. Just as timeless as Style itself, the passion for excellence found here at Magnifique will never go out of fashion!!
E’ noto che la moda passa, mentre lo stile resta; e certamente la passione per l’eccellenza qui da Magnifique non passerà mai di moda.
