Una giovane sartoria napoletana in Via Margutta, nel cuore della Roma degli artisti.
Sartoria Giuliva was founded by two young Neapolitan gentlemen bound by a strong friendship and a mutual passion for male elegance. The atelier lies in Via Margutta, renowned street in the heart of Rome, hosting artists’ workshops and art galleries. “It was summer 2013 and we were offing the Amalfi coast on a fishing boat when we conceived to set up our own sartoria” – I am told by Gerardo and Vittorio, the two founders, with their innate poetical flair, which they are well-aware of. Vittorio d’Agostino and Gerardo Cavaliere were born in the same day of different years; one is an entrepreneur, the other a lawyer in the family business and together they launched some months ago “Sartoria Giuliva”, a tribute to the light-heartedness and to those expert gestures of the tailors, able to cut a cloth and sew a perfectly fitting suit.
After long researches, they finally meet Raffaele Silvestri, a talented Neapolitan tailor penchant to make a jacket according to their taste. Their jacket, not by chance, has a typical Neapolitan cut: the armhole is narrow and a camicia, the lapel at least 10cm wide, the collar is high. The front pleat reaches the bottom only in some circumstances, side vents are as high as the pocket line. As for the inside, they normally use canvas and horsehair, but on request they can also make jackets with only one layer of canvas inside. The trousers, according to the personal taste of Vittorio and Gerardo, has got to have a double pleat starting 2 cm down the waist line, is unlined and features internal buttoning like in the old times (pancierina in Italian). The range of available fabrics is top-notch and really wide, going from Drapers and Dormeuil to Holland & Sherry and Loro Piana.
The concept here is the parlour, a sort of social gathering, where the customer usually becomes a friend, has a seat on their capitonné couch, sipping drinks and chatting about mutual passions in the elegant and lazy frame of the Eternal City.

Due gentlemen campani legati da una forte amicizia cementata da una comune passione per l’eleganza maschile e una sartoria nel cuore di Roma, in quella via Margutta, celebre per aver ospitato artisti e scuole di pittura. “Era l’estate del 2013 ed eravamo su un gozzo al largo di Amalfi quando abbiamo pensato di aprire una sartoria” – mi raccontano Gerardo e Vittorio, i due fondatori, linguaggio forbito, buone maniere e ottime letture, ben consapevoli di riportare un aneddoto ammantato di piacevole poesia. Vittorio d’Agostino e Gerardo Cavaliere, nati lo stessi giorno anche se in anni differenti, imprenditore l’uno, avvocato l’altro, hanno da qualche mese inaugurato la Sartoria Giuliva, un inno genuino alla spensieratezza e a quella sapiente ripetizione di gesti capace di aggiungere una terza dimensione ad un tessuto bidimensionale che diventerà un abito perfettamente calzante.
Dopo lunghe ricerche, incontrano finalmente Raffaele Silvestri, un eccellente sarto napoletano capace di cucire la giacca secondo il loro gusto. E la loro giacca, infatti, è proprio di impostazione napoletana: il giromanica è stretto e a camicia, il bavero mai inferiore ai 10 cm, il collo è alto. La ripresa solo su alcuni tessuti è fino al fondo, gli spacchi sono all’altezza della tasca. Quanto agli interni, adoperano in genere canvas e crine, ma su richiesta fanno anche giacche svuotate. Il pantalone, secondo il gusto personale di Gerardo e Vittorio, deve avere una doppia pence con travetto a 2 cm dalla vita, è sfoderato e con pancierina. La gamma di tessuti disponibili è ampia e di alta qualità: si va da Drapers e Dormeuil ad Holland & Sherry e Loro Piana.
Il concept qui è il salotto, il luogo di ritrovo, dove il cliente diventa quasi sempre un amico, si accomoda sul loro divano in capitonné per sorseggiare distillati di qualità, parlando di comuni passioni nell’elegante e pigra cornice della città eterna.
