"A gentleman in a bespoke suit with a messy beard is just a man with a messy beard”. Niccolò Bencini and Michele Callegari - the two co-founders of Barberino's - are well aware of this. Inside their gentlemen-only barbershop - located in Corso Magenta 10, Milan - the time stopped in the 50’s. Nomen omen: Giovanni Callegari moved to the States in 1910 in search of a better future and actually became famous in the Boston community with the nickname Barberino, given his stature. These two guys have been able to create the timeless atmosphere of a barbershop d’antan, yet with a fresh and young approach, from the furniture to the music, from a full line of high-quality shaving accessories to, of course, their cut. The green-coloured furniture is inspired to the boudoirs of the period luxury hotels, "it is meant to instil peace in the eye of our guests" says Niccolò, whilst confirming a booking from the iPad on the casher. Not only shavings and hair cuts, the entrepreneurial duo also launched a full line of shaving accessories and products, made from natural ingredients and high-end raw materials, like the razors made from ebony and Wengé woods (for TBD readers there is also a 10% discount with the code BARBERINOS4TBD at the checkout). No wonder then, if they just opened a new Milanese address in Via Cerva 11, open 7 days a week from 10 to 8pm, close to Piazza San Babila.
Bespoke hugs,
